Ankama Launcher: The Games won't start

By Orfei - MONSTER - October 16, 2019, 08:43:56

I've installed the AppImage (i'm using ubuntu 18.04) and the launcher runs fine, until i try to play a game.

The play button changes to a launching button, then about a second later, back to the play button.
The games don't launch and i have checked the system monitor and found a lot of "zaap" named entries, that do next to nothing.

If anyone has experienced this before, how did you fix it or at least work around

Wich game are you trying to play, Dofus? At some time, when i was testing, i also had to install Adobe Air and WineHQ to make it work.

Edit: i tried installing winehq and adobe but i still had the same problem, thanks for the input though

This workaround only works for Dofus (who uses Adobe Air, instead of Java). Try to check your java options inside the launcher; Mark "Display advanced user options", if not marked, close, and try to run once... To see what happens.

I'm experiencing the same issue. This is the first time I've used AppImage-distributed software. I too am using Ubuntu 18.04. And the problem is precisely as Orfel describes it. I took a look at running processes and there are 7 (seven) process begining with zaap running, all connected to Ankama Laucher mount point but no game window.

after checking the box, i am given Xms and Xmx (yes, i know what they are) Xms is set to 200m and Xmx is set to 512m
the Java options read as follows:

-XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:+UseG1GC -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dsun.awt.noerasebackground=true -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true -Djogl.disable.openglarbcontext

running the program still results in no effect

I have java 11 if that could impact it

Ah, there's the problem: Wakfu only works with Java 8 (Oracle or Open Source).

Well, doesn't work with these either:
openjdk version "1.8.0_222"
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_222-8u222-b10-1ubuntu1~18.04.1-b10)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.222-b10, mixed mode)

java 1.8.0_232 worked for me.

until i switched to a new computer tongue

Edit: After using "apt install openjdk-8-jdk" instead of "apt install openjdk-8-jdk-headless" it worked fine

perhaps that will work for you

Was there ever a solution to this? I am having the same issue.

Not sure how to fix it on your end, downgrading to java 8 worked for me.

I'm having this same issue on Arch Linux. I installed jdk8-openjdk package and that didn't change anything. Still will not launch the game.
